Hotel Overview

Where

Sosian Lodge is a private wildlife and cattle ranch in the heart of Laikipia.

Rooms at Sosian

The luxurious accommodation has plenty of character, including four-poster beds, carved wooden furnishings and colourful African fabrics. Each cottage is surrounded by beautiful gardens of lush greenery and vibrant flowers, and comes with a private veranda for making the most of the uninterrupted views over Mount Kenya and miles of miles of Laikipia landscapes.

If you're on honeymoon, choose the Italian cottage - a secluded, spacious haven.

Food & Drink

Sosian Lodge is well-known for its delicious home cooking, using fresh ingredients from the organic vegetable garden alongside warm and friendly hospitality. There are lots of wonderful places to eat including hearty breakfast picnics by the river after a morning safari, lunches by the swimming pool, afternoon teas on the veranda and bush dinners around an open fire, under the stars.

Facilities

Sosian has a beautiful swimming pool, with a shaded thatch pool house with a bar where you can relax by the fireplace, drink in hand, on chillier evenings.

Activities at Sosian

Sosian is one of our favourite spots for going on safari - being private (not a national park or a reserve), you are guaranteed exclusive wildlife experiences here. The Laikipia plateau is home to a number of rare and endangered species and so most activities will revolve around trying to see them as much as possible, either on foot, horseback, camelback or in a 4x4, with specially raised seats to ensure premium wildlife viewing. All safaris are led by expert guides, who will be on constant lookout for elephants cooling off in the rivers, and lions, cheetahs, giraffees and zebras - as well as hartebeests, grant's gazelles and bat-eared foxes - on the open grassy plains. On night-time safaris, you might see leopards, hyenas, aardvarks, buffaloes and hippos. Birdwatchers, meanwhile, can enjoy sightings of hundreds of species of birds.

Sosian is also a working cattle ranch, and you can get stuck in with activities such as dipping cattle.

Aside from the widlife, you can also visit a local school Sosian supports and head to local villages to meet the tribes. For more action and adventure, there's fishing, archery and tennis on offer, and you can cool off by rafting or tubing down the river and swimming under waterfalls.
