Sense of place

The Hemingways Watamu is located on Turtle Bay Road on the outskirts of Watamu Village, 120 kms north of Mombasa.

Rooms at Hemingways Watamu

The bright and airy ocean view rooms are set on the ground and first floors of the hotel's north wing and feature a grass garden or balcony for unwinding and soaking up the views. Deluxe ocean view rooms can be found on the top floor and offer uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean.

The residences are located in the south wing and comprise of ultra-luxe one, two and four-bedroom apartments with a stylish seaside-themed décor - neutral colour schemes punctuated with nautically-coloured textiles to create a cool, laid-back vibe. All apartments offer marble-tiled bathrooms, living and dining areas and a fully equipped kitchen. Large terraces provide incredible views plus plenty of space for relaxing and socialising with friends or family.

Food & Drink

Dine al fresco by the beach and savour freshly-caught seafood and grilled meats, bursting with Swahili flavour, plus a selection of pasta and vegetarian dishes served a la carte each evening.

Drop by Gede Coffee Gardens for a mid-morning treat including specialty coffee, cake and fine gelato, or later for a light lunch. There is no better spot for a refreshing Kenyan sundowner than the iconic Hemingways bar, situated right on the seafront.

Beginner divers can also become PADI certified here. If you fancy taking it a little easier, head out on a sunset dhow cruise on Mida Creek or reinvigorate with a selection of African-inspired skincare and massage treatments at the spa.

Activities at Hemingways Watamu

Venture offshore on a snorkelling excursion to discover colourful coral formations and a diverse variety of marine life including whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles and over 500 species of fish.

Delight in the tropical climate under the shade of a palm tree, or engage in the wide variety of activities on offer here. Cool off in the sea breeze while kite surfing or paddle boarding, or try your hand at deep sea fishing with a trip out on one of the hotel's sport fishing boats.

Hemingways Watamu is committed to eco-tourism and supports the local environment and community, from recycling initiatives to supporting local schools - and you can join in during your stay, including with beach clean-ups and reef expeditions where you can learn about the impact of ocean pollution.
