Tortilis

Location: Amboseli & Southeast Kenya | Kenya

Price guide: £££££ £350-£500 per person per night

Tortillis is surely a contender for being one of Africa’s most scenically located safari camps. With views of Kilimanjaro dominating the horizon and vast elephants strolling towards the waterhole, it’s almost impossible to tear yourself away from your camera.  But when you do, there are wonderfully comfortable tents, charming staff and endlessly fascinating game drives.
Perfect forFamilies, elephant enthusiasts and off-season safaris.
In the knowOur top tip? Follow the cognoscenti and visit during the greener, wetter months, when the park glows a gorgeous emerald green, flocks of birds flutter on the horizon, and sunsets are to die for.

Hotel Overview

Where

Amboseli National Park, in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Rooms at Tortillis

There are 16 khaki coloured tents, chicly decorated with rich rugs on the floor, large wooden trunks to store your treasures in, and a small bathroom to the rear. Worth a particular mention are the family tent and the private house, both with two bedrooms and their own sitting room - ideal if you’re travelling as a larger group.

Food and facilities

While most safari camps are pretty rough and ready, Tortillis has a few little extras to spoil you when you’re not out on hair-raising, heart-stopping game drives. There’s a pool to float in on lazy afternoon, and massage to soothe out the bumps of the bush roads. Meal times bring hearty, delicious food, and special occasions will see you eating under the stars, or surprised with a picnic out in the bush.

Activities at Tortillis

The main activity here is game driving in Tortillis’s open  4 wheel drive vehicles. Look out in particular for the mighty elephants for which the area’s known- the Amboseli ecosystem is  thought to have over a thousand ellies! Also on offer are walking safaris and visits to the local Maasai community.
