Dig out the espadrilles, sling out the tartan thermos flask: spring has finally sprung!
Okay, so not quite yet, but it’s never too early to start planning a Spring Fling. Check out some of our favourite spring break destinations, in Europe and Morocco.
Wagner and Vespers on the Amalfi Coast
Clinging to one of the most romantic and scenic of Italy’s coastlines, Amalfi is just what you need to blow away the cobwebs. During spring, the cobblestone streets of Positano are far less crowded, and the epitome of la dolce vita – think cappuccinos, mint-green vespers, and softly-chiming church bells – and as of April, the Wagner Festival will be ushering in swoon-worthy concerts with dramatic coastal backdrops. Capri, meanwhile, is just a boat-hop away (check out the famous blue grottoes) and you'll also be close to Pompeii.
A Break for All the Senses in Marrakech
If it’s retail therapy you're after, Spring is one of the best times to wander around Marrakech’s vivid spice markets and souks – far nicer than in the sweltering summer months – whilst the breathtaking Atlas Mountains are blooming with almond blossom, and perfect for trekking. After both activities you can retreat back to a romantic and opulent riad, immersing yourself in a spa fit for a sultan, and feeling a million miles from home.
Cyprus: an Island of Your Own
You may have been to Cyprus before, but a break there in Spring is a totally different experience, and one which opens your eyes to the beauty of the island. Instead of sprawling on the beaches as you normally would, the cool breeze and abundance of orchids and wild herbs makes it a wonderful time of year for walking, cycling, and picnicking above the idyllic coves. As for culture, you’ll be far more inclined to explore Cyprus’ archaeological sites than at the height of summer, and with fewer tourists about your experience will be more authentic and relaxed.
