When you think of rodeos, Queensland in Australia isn’t exactly the first place you’d come up with. But on her travels Down Under, that’s exactly what Annette, our Australia expert, came across.

In fact, this horse-bucking event was part of the Big Weekend Chillagoe Rodeo, which took place this weekend in the small town of Chillagoe in northern Queensland. The festivity, organised by the Chillagoe Bushman’s Carnival Association, coincided with Mother’s Day in Australia, and was complete with adrenaline-pumping bull rides, dances, entertainment and markets.

Annette is currently traversing the lands Down Under to scout out all the best hidden spots for holiday makers. Her latest trip has taken her to Crystalbrook Lodge in the Queensland outback, 45 minutes inland from Cairns. This gorgeous five-star accommodation overlooks Crystalbrook Lake from its isolated location, and is fantastic for birdwatching, barramundi fishing, star gazing and croc spotting. The fascinating Chillagoe caves are also located nearby, showcasing dramatic limestone rock formations and small galleries of Aboriginal rock art.
