When to go to Bolivia

Bolivia has a temperate climate but with wide differences between day and night. In the highlands, dry season runs from May to October and this is typically the time that most people visit Bolivia. Temperatures at night are low throughout the year but drop well below freezing at the height of the dry season in June, July and August.

The wettest period is November to March, which, in extreme circumstances, may induce landslides in mountainous areas and cause certain roads to become impassable. The Uyuni Salt Flats can flood at this time of year as well.

In the Amazon, temperatures are typically much warmer year-round, though frosts are not unheard of. These lowland areas also have a ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ season that follows the same months as the highlands. Flights to the Amazon are more unpredictable during the wet season.
