Buenos Aires

3 nightsBUENOS AIRES

Before your journey into the Patagonian wilderness, your journey begins with a shot of cosmopolitan city life in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. You’ll spend three nights at the regal Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau, a magnificent neoclassical palace in the affluent Recoleta district. You’ll get to know the city with a half-day private guided tour, taking in iconic neighbourhoods such as La Boca – famous for its pastel-coloured buildings and cobbled streets – and touring the famous milongas, where dancers tango the night away. Your stay here also includes a trip to the most famous tango show of them all, Rojo Tango, in the cabaret room of the Faena Hotel.

las balsas

3 nightsLAS BALSAS

A short flight to San Carlos de Bariloche takes you to your next destination, on the shores of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. An area of great natural beauty, the lake – and surrounding Nahuel Huapi National Park – are fantastic for a few days’ relaxation and fresh country air after the chaos of Buenos Aires. Your home for the next three nights is Las Balsas, a beautiful alpine-lodge style hotel right on the lake’s shore. One of your days here will be spent with a private driver on a tour of the spectacular Ruta de los Siete Lagos – the Route of the Seven Lakes – which, as the name suggests, passes through forested valleys en route to seven beautiful lakes.

El Calafate

2 nightsEL CALAFATE

The next stop on your Patagonian adventure is El Calafate, the gateway to adventures in one of Patagonia’s main draws, Los Glaciares National Park. As ever, you’ll stay at the top property in the area, EOLO, a luxurious boutique hotel set on 10,000 acres of pristine wilderness. Your stay here will include a range of fantastic outdoor activities, both on the property itself and at the nearby Los Glaciares National Park.

Trekking, horseback riding, mountain biking and bird watching tours are all fantastic ways to experience the lakes, mountains and ice fields which make up this beautiful, otherworldly landscape; a highlight of your stay here will be a mini-trek on the Perito Moreno Glacier, which sees you scaling the ice with crampons.

Torres del Paine

3 nightsTORRES DEL PAINE

The Chilean leg of your Patagonian journey begins here, as a private transfer takes you across the border to Torres del Paine. Chile’s answer to Los Glaciares (the two actually border one another), this national park encompasses incredible landscapes of forests, glaciers, lakes and mountains - you’ll spend the next few days exploring them during your stay at Awasi, a collection of boutique villas set on a pristine nature reserve. Other inhabitants of the reserve include eagles, condors, foxes, sheep and even pumas; traditional gauchos tend the land here, as they have done for centuries.

You’ll have your own private expert guide during your time here, who will lead you on excursions to hike, spot wildlife, and even hone your nature photography skills.

Santiago

2 nightsSANTIAGO

Your journey ends with a flight to the Chilean capital, Santiago, where you’ll spend the final two nights. Your final full day here will be spent in the Cachapoal Valley region, around an hour’s drive south of the city, on a private tour of local premium vineyards Anakena and Altair, stopping off for a delicious lunch en route.

Back in Santiago itself, don’t miss the chance to experience the city’s burgeoning food scene, whose stock is soaring at the moment; head down to the wrought iron seafood market at Mercado Central one evening for a delicious ceviche whipped up from the very best produce from Chile’s two-and-a-half thousand miles of coastline. A fantastic way to get an impression of Santiago’s dramatic setting, between the Andes and the coast, is to ride the funicular railway to the Virgin Mary statue, at the top of Cerro San Cristobal.

You’ll spend two nights in Santiago at The Singular, an atmospheric neoclassical hotel in the heart of the city.
