It’s also well worth making an excursion to the Grand Canyon, to enjoy a scenic helicopter flight over the rim and above the Colorado River - an unforgettable honeymoon experience.

After picking up your car in Las Vegas, you'll begin your self-drive adventure by crossing the desert into California on your way to Palm Springs, nestled in the Coachella Valley. In the 1950s and 60s, this bohemian enclave was a playground for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Elvis, and an irresistible atmosphere of vintage glamour still pervades here. A trip on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway – the largest rotating tramway in the world – is well worth it for the sweeping views over the Chino Valley, while culture vultures should pay a visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum, which is home to paintings, sculpture and photography spanning the last century.

Beautiful and glitzy, it is known for its fantastic beaches. Main Beach is best for swimming and is a favourite of volleyball players, but we suggest heading to the scenic Treasure Island Beach for a romantic stroll along the sand.
