2 nightsKEY LARGO

The largest section of the Keys, Key Largo’s teeming coral reef gives it at least a crack at its self-styled title of ‘Diving Capital of the World’. It’s certainly well worth exploring beneath the waves here, and not just in order to come face-to-face with the various subaquatic characters who make their home here– the eerily beautiful Christ of the Abyss is well worth a visit, as are several shipwrecks and the reef itself. You’ll stay at Hilton Key Largo, a laidback resort nestled within tropical forest and overlooking an azure blue sea.

2 nightsISLAMORADA

The Keys’ very own ‘Village of Islands’, Islamorada’s natural beauty and abundant wildlife – on and off land– make it one of the region’s best-loved destinations. Renowned as the sport fishing capital of the world, anglers, divers and lovers of seafood alike will delight in the diversity of Islamorada’s marine life, while landlubbers will love the tropical nature trails of Long Key State Park. You’ll spend two nights at the Casa Morada, an exquisite upscale resort inspired by the Caribbean, with its very own private island featuring a beach, bar and pool: the perfect base from which to enjoy a variety of activities, from private off-shore fishing and snorkel cruises to kayak tours through the island’s mangrove swamps.

2 nightsKEY WEST

The southernmost city in the United States, Key West’s relative isolation may go some way to explaining its unique character: eccentric, laid-back and overflowing with charm, Key West is sure to enrapture you just as it has the free spirits who have long flocked to its photogenic shores. Ernest Hemingway called this place home for ten years: a population of six-toed cats, descended from his pet moggie, which roam the island. Key West is where the highway ends, but the Keys stretch out for another 70 miles– a sea plane is a great way to get an aerial view of the Keys. Enjoy snorkelling, exploring mangrove islands and spotting turtles, rays, and dolphins,  stopping off for a picnic on a secluded island. Your home for 2 nights is the Casa Marina, a Waldorf Astoria resort. This is a classic hotel with a luxurious old Key West atmosphere.

After a day working up an appetite in the great outdoors, enjoy award-winning cuisine at the Butterfly cafe, based around the freshest seafood and Caribbean-inspired dishes. Before you leave the Keys, be sure not to miss a visit to the Everglades National Park, where you’ll enjoy some of the best wildlife viewing in North America. Rivers, swamps and mangroves are home to hundreds of bird and animal species, as well as being the only place in the world where crocodiles and alligators live side by side.

2 nightsMIAMI

Your second stay on Islamorada signals the end of your tour of the Florida Keys, and your trip ends back on the mainland in Miami. Famed for its melting-pot culture and cuisine, fusing American, Latin and Caribbean influences, and for its vibrant nightlife, Miami is a great place to end your trip with a shot of buzzing urbanity. Your home for two nights is the Standard Miami, an ultra-chic spa hotel on the Venetian Causeway with a truly world-class spa, which should help you relax and revitalise after a week’s diving, watersports and exploration. The hotel’s location is great too, providing some welcome seclusion while being just a short distance from the action of Miami’s buzzing nightlife and the popular South Beach.
