Hotel Overview

Where

On over 1,000 acres of pristine and private beach shaded by leafy coconut palms on Islamorada in the Florida Keys.

Rooms at The Moorings

The Moorings’ 18 plantation-style cottages are peppered along the seafront, ensuring privacy and leaving you feeling as if you’re staying at a friend’s luxurious beach pad – one with impeccable taste, of course: the charming houses have shutters painted in pale blues and pinks, and wraparound porches furnished with hammocks, chairs and lanterns. The decor is simple and fresh, with wooden floors and muted pastel palettes throughout the bedrooms, kitchens and spacious living and dining areas.

Food and facilities

Boogie boards and surfing posters bedeck the walls in the nearby Beach Café at Morada Bay, a laidback bistro set on the sand and serving salads and seafood; while the café’s more formal counterpart, Pierre’s, focuses on French fusion cuisine, served in a romantic dining room with carved walls, illuminated by atmospheric Moroccan lamps. For us, however, nothing quite beats picking up some fresh fish at a local market to cook up on a beach barbecue, and tucking in on your porch with a cold drink – The Moorings' staff will even stock your fridges prior to your arrival if you ask nicely.

Activities at The Moorings

Follow the wooden walkway from your cottage straight to one of the best beaches in the Keys, where you could happily pass hours on end, swimming and soaking up the sun or, for something a little more energetic, every water sport imaginable is on offer here, from kite-boarding to parasailing. Islamorada – which means ‘purple island’ – is famed for its violet-hued sunsets: well worth pulling up a sandy seat for as the evening draws in. Full moons are a cause for celebration at The Moorings: every month brings bonfires on the sand, outdoor cocktail bars, music and circus performers for a beach bash.
