Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Merzouga is surrounded by the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the two Saharan ‘dune seas’ which sit in Morocco. The endless miles of wind-blown sand make for an eerily beautiful, silent environment.

Rooms at Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp

During your time at Merzouga you’ll stay in ‘jaimas’, luxurious tents constructed in a traditional style from camel skin. These echo the traditional tents lived in by nomadic peoples, but are very comfortable and feature large beds, armchairs and en-suite bathrooms. For extra exclusivity, you can choose to stay in the secluded private luxury camp, home to just five tents.

Food & Drink

The food, served in the opulent dining tent, is traditionally Moroccan and is accompanied by traditional singers and musicians demonstrating the artistic traditions of the desert. Classic dishes are served up in hearty portions, perfect for refuelling after a day’s adventures and keeping you warm during the chilly desert nights; there’s also an extensive drinks list.

Facilities

As a desert camp, it goes without saying that there isn’t a great deal of facilities here, but the bathrooms have running hot and cold water.

Activities at Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp

The dune sea of Erg Chebbi is your playground here, with a range of activities on offer to choose from. Camel rides, stopping off for a picnic lunch halfway through, are perennially popular; so too is lunch at a nearby oasis. Quad biking ‘s a somewhat more hair-raising way to explore the dunes, while stargazing makes the most of the clear night skies. Cooking classes are also on offer with the camp’s chef, who will teach you the secrets of Moroccan cuisine.
