Casa Sandra

Casa Sandra is on the beachfront of the secluded Holbox Island, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico. The island itself is home to just 2,000 inhabitants, and forms part of the Yum Balam ecological reserve.

In keeping with the home-from-home feel, Casa Sandra houses just 19 guest rooms, comprising a mixture of suites and villas. Sandra’s artistic flair is prevalent in each of the rooms, where guests can admire the artwork of the owner herself, as well a selection from a number of her Cuban peers. The rooms flaunt a rustic Mexican style, and many offer breathtaking views of the turquoise Caribbean waters below.

Popular among locals for its excellent food, the restaurant CasaSandra offers gourmet home cooking. The restaurant incorporates both Mexican and Caribbean flavours, as well as a number of Cuban specialities. Don’t miss some of the fish and seafood dishes, all of which are locally sourced and wonderfully fresh.

Hidden among the tropical gardens you can find the swimming pool, with sunloungers and daybeds. There is also a selection of books to choose from in the relaxing lounge area.

Many people visit Holbox Island for its impressive wildlife scene. The island is a haven for whale sharks between the months of May and September, and many visitors come to swim with these colossal sharks. Animal lovers can take a stroll along any of Holbox’s dirt tracks and may spot Hawksbill turtles, pink flamingos, white pelicans and many different types of iguanas.
