Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Living Heritage Koslanda is nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka’s hill country. It is set in 80 acres of forest, Devianga Kale, or ‘God’s forest’, which is spread over seven hills and is home to wildlife such as giant squirrels, monkeys and exotic birds.

Rooms at Living Heritage Koslanda

There is just a handful of luxurious and spacious villas here, ensuring an exclusive experience. Inspired by traditional Sri Lankan architecture and design, the hotel has worked with local craftsmen to showcase age-old, authentic techniques. Furnished with beautiful antiques, the villas have their own private walled gardens with outdoor plunge pools and garden showers – have a shower by moonlight! They are connected by a long veranda, while there is also a separate villa, a lovely and secluded hideaway.

Food & drink

The bountiful breakfasts include fresh fruit and hoppers – learn how to make these delicious fried pancakes with an egg dropped in the middle on a cookery class. Later in the day, enjoy more tasty Sri Lankan favourites (maybe from the barbecue), which are given a contemporary twist. Dine by lantern light on the riverside, or on a hilltop pavilion, accompanied by panoramic countryside views.

Facilities

As well as the long veranda, there are three open-sided, roofed houses (ambalamas), modelled on traditional meeting places, where you can relax and unwind. The hilltop infinity pool sits above paddy fields and is a fantastic spot to take in the views as well as enjoy a refreshing dip, followed by a poolside cocktail.

Activities at Living Heritage Koslanda

Enjoy a guided trek through the forest around the hotel, to find out about pepper and coffee cultivation during colonial times, and learn more about the native plants and trees – you can even plant a tree yourself. There is a river and waterfall nearby, where you’ll find some natural pools to swim in and a forest ambalama to chill out in afterwards - and while you’re in the forest, keep an eye out for the colourful wildlife.

Further afield, take a scenic drive to visit the tea plantations, to watch the tea pickers at work and learn about growing tea and how to make the perfect brew. You can also visit historic Buddhist temples with ancient carvings, and go on a jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park to see elephants, Sri Lankan sloth bears and monkeys.
