Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Ceylon Tea Trails lies in central Sri Lanka, just four hours from Colombo by car to Castlereagh Lake in the Bogawantalawa Valley.

Rooms at Ceylon Tea Trails

Nestled amongst the beautiful hills, lakes, and waterfalls of the Ceylon tea region, Ceylon Tea Trails has luxurious rooms, suites and a secluded Owner's Cottage, with plush four-poster beds and antique furnishings, as well as five individually-styled bungalows. These include the one-of-a-kind Castlereagh by the waterfront, the country cottage-themed Summerville, the Chinese-inspired Tientsin, the colonial-style Norwood, and Dunkeld, which perches high above Castlereagh Lake and has an infinity pool and hot tub.

The bungalows can be booked out as a whole if you're a group, or as individual suites if you're a couple (some of the suites have private gardens) - but either way you'll enjoy a serene and elegant stay, with a private pool and discreet butler service.

Food & Drink

Fine dining will form a large part of your experience at Ceylon Tea Trails, and it gives you a taste not only of the beautiful garden-fresh produce, but the lifestyles of the colonial tea planters. After a day of trekking you’ll be treated to a traditional high tea in the gardens, G & Ts on the terrace or in front of the fireplace, and delicious meals that include dishes such as tea-crusted lamb, hibiscus sorbet and Earl Grey-infused chocolate sauce.

Facilities

After a strenuous day's hiking and exploring the countryside, relax with an aromatic bath featuring cinnamon or jasmine, or enjoy an in-room signature massage.

Activities at Ceylon Tea Trails

Learning about the age-old tea-making process with the hotel's resident tea planter is a must, while walking or mountain biking around the scenic trails between the bungalows is an absolute treat, passing colourfully sari-clad tea pickers along the way, and with the lush plantations, mountains, and lakes stretching out all around you.

Those feeling particularly sprightly can take a dawn hike to the famous Adam's Peak, or head deeper into the valley for white water rafting. Sometimes though, the simplest activities are the most enjoyable, like taking a walk around the pretty gardens or playing croquet on the lawn.
