Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The Chena Huts are set above the beach, just 10 minutes from Yala National Park.

Rooms at Chena Huts

Echoing the local architecture, Chena Huts' mound-like cabins are enormous, climate-controlled residences with lavish ensuite bathrooms, large living rooms and shaded private plunge pools. Channelling a modern safari vibe, the palm-thatched huts are elevated above ground and linked by boardwalks, keeping you close to the jungle environment yet comfortably embraced in a luxurious setting.

Food & drink

Taking its name from the nearby reefs and lighthouse, the nautical-themed Basses restaurant offers fine dining with a mix of healthy and indulgent options.

For breakfast you can play it cool with porridge and fresh fruit or go all in and try Sri Lankan milk rice with curries or poached eggs with homemade gravlax. For lunch and dinner, the menu tends to showcase local ingredients, in delicious dishes such as fish curries and coconut sambals, but also throws in a few European-style entrées for good measure.

Facilities

When you are not on safari and watching the resident wildlife, wallow in your free-standing bathtub, take a dip in the heated swimming pool or be pampered and preened in the spa, with a soothing body-buffing ritual.

Activities at Chena Huts

When on game drives to the park, think big and try to spot elephants, wild boars and buffaloes, as well as leopards, but when you cross over to the sand dune-sculpted beach, think colour and keep an eye out for ibises, painted storks and the odd flamingo. Stretch your legs after the game drives by walking along the beach with a guide to track and spot sea turtles laying eggs.
