Flying in to Kiruna, you’ll be taken to the first stop on your luxury family winter adventure, Fjellborg Arctic Lodge, just a 15-minute drive away. The Fjellborg family have lived in Arctic Lapland for nine generations, and use their expertise to deliver unforgettable family-focused experiences in northern Sweden’s enchanting winter wilderness.

Once kitted out in top quality Arctic clothing, you’ll set off on your first adventure – dog-sledding through the frozen landscapes to reach your exclusive Master Cabin, your home for the next three nights.

Your stay will see you trying a myriad of winter activities in the company of highly skilled guides, including learning all about sled dogs and the art of mushing, snowshoe trekking, ice fishing, snowmobiling, reindeer lassoing and sleigh rides. Discover the fascinating culture of the Sami people with lunch in a traditional Goahti tent and try your hand at ice sculpting under the expert instruction of a professional ice artist.

In between these once-in-a-lifetime adventures, unwind in sumptuous style with a sauna or soak in the hot tub overlooking Lake Vakkara and savour the finest locally-sourced ingredients in gourmet meals prepared by your private chef.

After exploring the wilderness from Fjellborg, you’ll be taken to the nearby ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjarvi, the first of its kind in the world and one of the most iconic hotels in Scandinavia. Rebuilt every year from ice and snow from the Torne River, this is a truly unique travel experience which will delight kids of all ages and adults alike.

The hotel’s transient nature and annual rebirth allows for the ice suites to be redesigned each year by artists, who carve the ice into unique themed creations. Sleep on an ice bed on reindeer hides and under a thermal sleeping bag, and wake up to a hot cup of lingonberry juice before heading for a sauna and hot shower. Staying in a deluxe ice room is a strange and magical experience, and we recommend that you keep it to one night and spend the other in one of the hotel's warm rooms: these follow a Nordic chalet theme and are made of local wood.

Lapland is a fantastic place for young children to enjoy an unforgettable Christmas: there’s a torchlight procession and traditional carol concert, Christmas games on the frozen Torne River, and potentially even an appearance or two from Santa Claus himself.

Just when you though it couldn’t get any more otherworldly, this is also one of the best places to view the Northern Lights, an absolute must during the winter months – although, even here, there’s no guarantee of a light display. With children over 13, you can get a taste of how the hotel is built with an ice sculpting class, and dog sledding, snowmobile tours, and cross-country skiing are among the other activities on offer here.

After two nights at the unique ICEHOTEL, your Arctic adventure is over, and you’ll be taken to Kiruna for your flight home.
