1 nightKIRUNA: ICEHOTEL

Enter a world of ice and snow and be immersed in a luxurious winter wonderland – the original ICEHOTEL is like no other hotel on the planet. The glacial igloo rooms are carved out of ice and snow, each with a distinct theme styled with exquisite sculptures and ice block beds laden with fur throws. Before you settle in for the night, you can tour the other rooms to admire these incredibly crafted grottos – they change every year when it all melts and the hotel is built up again for the next winter. As for how you’ll be spending your time? Take your pick of incredible experiences, such as ice sculpting, snowmobiling, Reindeer-sledding, wildlife safaris, winter wilderness survival and seeing the Northern Lights on horseback, to name a few. Dine either at the hotel's restaurant, from icy plates, or at the cosy Jukkasjärvi Homestead, before hitting the Icebar. This wintry drinking den serves champagne and cocktails in ice glasses, and a dancefloor made of snow – naturally.

2 nightsHARADS

Swap your luxury igloo for a grown-up treehouse as we take you to the Treehotel in Harads, where towering pine forests shelter a handful of tree cabins suspended up to six metres above the ground. Climb up to your eco-friendly treehouse – each is designed with a different theme, whether that’s the floating UFO or the slick Mirror Cube – and have some snacks brought to you as you gaze out at the wintry landscape through your window. Wrap up and take to the outdoors to discover this nature haven, whether that’s exploring the taiga forest by fatbike; gliding along the snow by Segway or skiing; and having horses or huskies pull you along by skijoring and dog-sledding. Retreat to your hideaway to luxuriate in the Tree Sauna and take a plunge in the open-air hot tub, before pulling up a chair at Britta’s Pensionat to fuel up on hearty Nordic cuisine by the fire and catch up with the friendly hotel owners, Kent and Britta.
