Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Hamn in Senja is located on the west coast of Senja, Norway’s second largest island, which is home to some of the country’s most gorgeous scenery but remains relatively undiscovered by the tourist hordes. With mountains, ocean and outcrops of rocky islands as far as the eye can see, this is true Arctic wilderness.

Rooms at Hamn I Senja

Hamn in Senja’s accommodations are split across 29 apartments, each with two or three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The apartments were newly built in 2008 and have a modern and stylish feel, with kitchen facilities and views over the harbour. There are also eight new high-spec suites affording fabulous views to the fjord.

Food and drink

Hamn in Senja’s restaurant, Storbrygga Spiseri, makes the most of the resort’s seafront location to offer fresh, seasonal seafood dishes all year round in a relaxed, informal setting. The Cognac Saloon has a different feel, with its heavy curtains, furniture dating back to the 1880's and wooden circular bar creating an old-world atmosphere which is great for whiling away a few hours with a drink in hand. The lavvu can also be booked for private sessions, so you can enjoy a great lunch while staff regale you with local folk tales.

Facilities

Hamn in Senja offers a great range of wellness facilities which you can use to recharge after a day in the great outdoors, including outdoor hot tubs such as one on board a boat, all with 360-degree views to the ocean and mountainous landscapes. The resort has several boats which it uses for excursions, from a traditional fishing smack to luxurious cruising vessels used for safaris – some of the boats are available for private rental. Bicycles can also be rented from the hotel. The Lighthouse, with panoramic views of the Midnight Sun, the Northern Lights and seasonal Arctic moods is highly recommended for an evening visit.

Activities at Hamn I Senja

Island trips with outdoor picnics, fishing expeditions and sightseeing tours all regularly depart from the hotel on board one of their boats during winter. Senjafjord features a comfortable lounge from which you can watch the world go by on a wildlife safari with a chance to see killer and humpback whales indulge in a feeding frenzy in January.

Senjakyst is a traditional Norwegian fishing boat which will carry you and a professional guide on fishing trips. Smaller boats are available for private rental for fishing and sightseeing trips, with expert guides an optional extra. In the summer, a midnight sun cruise, watching the sun that never sets, is a surreal experience.
