Delicious Italy in a Mini Cooper

Duration: 13 nights

Price: From $5,150 per person in low season based on two adults travelling together and including accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, private transfers, car hire, boat transportation and taxes

If you enjoyed watching Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon on their travels in the BBC’s The Trip, then you’ll love this Italy holiday, which recreates their journey from north to south in style. The route followed in the footsteps of romantic poets Shelley and Byron, but unsurprisingly (this is Italy, after all), food was the star of the show. As well as the chance to enjoy some of Italy's finest food and wine, dining in many of the same delicious restaurants, you'll also visit many of the same locations, stay in many of the same hotels, in incredible locations including Rome, Ravello and Capri, and pass by the same rolling hills and sun-dappled vineyards that provided such a perfect backdrop.
Perfect forLovers of the finer things in life – from incredible hotels to Michelin-starred cuisine.
In the knowUpgrade to the same car that Coogan and Brydon travelled in, a Mini Cooper (in a nod to classic movie The Italian Job) - and how about extending your holiday to the beautiful Amalfi Coast?

2 nightsSINIO

Fly to Turin, where you’ll pick up your car and drive to Sinio (approximately a 1.5-hour drive). Start your holiday in style with lunch at Trattoria della Posta in Langhe, where you can feast on exquisite cuisine and sample the best local vintages on the veranda at this elegant historic house, as you look out over the Piedmont countryside. Enjoy several courses, which make the best of seasonal produce such as fish and truffles – whatever time of year you go, there will be something to savour. Stay at the award-winning Hotel Castello di Sinio, set in a 12th-century castle surrounded by vineyards (it sits between the wine regions of Barolo and Barbaresco). The plush accommodation features chandeliers and oil paintings as well as all stylish modern bathrooms, and there’s also a beautiful restaurant and lovely terraces and gardens.

Camogli

2 nightsCAMOGLI

Your next stop is Camogli, an impossibly pretty seaside village (approximately 2.5 hours away). Terracotta-coloured houses sit on the steep hillside overlooking the aptly-named Golfo Paradiso. Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi overlooks it, and the stylish rooms and restaurant have terraces and sea views. There is a saltwater pool and direct access to a private beach. Take a boat trip along the Ligurian coast to the fishing hamlet of San Fruttuoso, where you’ll enjoy a memorable evening meal on the beach at La Cantina, looking out over the bay. The spaghetti alla pescatora (spaghetti with seafood) is the speciality, and comes highly recommended, as do the grilled fish and homemade ice creams.

2 nightsPIEVESCOLA

Your next destination is the picturesque village of Pievescola (approximately 3 hours away) and the sumptuous Relais La Suvera, one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. This Renaissance Italian villa nestled in the Tuscan hills oozes history and charm: its exquisite interiors are full of antiques, heirlooms and unique features. Dine in the restaurant in the old mill, which has an olive press and a terrace surrounded by olive trees. Unwind in the pool and the spa, and enjoy a soak in a hydromassage bath made from a medieval cistern.

2 nightsROME

Today, drive to Rome (approximately a 3-hour drive), which, with its world-famous landmarks such as the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain, needs no introduction! We love the Hotel de Russie, which is near the Spanish Steps and within walking distance of many of the city’s top attractions. The lovely rooms have fantastic views, and the restaurant is popular with locals as well as guests, who flock to its delicious Italian and international menu. In summer, dine in the ‘Secret Garden’ – an oasis of terraces hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Rome’s streets. You’ll also get to experience the Michelin-starred Oliver Glowig restaurant near Villa Borghese, which offers classic Italian dishes with a modern twist.

Ravello, Italy

2 nightsRAVELLO

Today, it’s back in the car again for a scenic drive to Ravello (approximately 3.5 hours away) and the Belmond Hotel Caruso, one of our top picks for sheer luxury and indulgence, which has a beautiful hilltop setting. The pretty gardens offer the perfect opportunity to walk off a gourmet feast at the hotel, accompanied by sweeping ocean views. If you can drag yourself away, explore the medieval streets of Ravello and their irresistible shops and restaurants, and enjoy a cruise around the Amalfi Coast on the hotel's private boat.

3 nightsCAPRI

From Ravello, hop on a boat to Capri, where you’ll spend three blissful nights at the lovely Capri Palace, one of our favourite hotels in Italy. It’s also a favourite Hollywood hangout, and the suites are named after Hollywood stars. No wonder it’s such a favourite, with its private garden and pools, a private beach club, a blissful spa and sweeping sea views, not to mention its cuisine: the Capri Palace has not one but two Michelin-starred restaurants, so make sure you make the most of meals here – they are guaranteed to be a highlight of your trip! If you can drag yourself away, enjoy a cruise around the coast on the hotel’s private yacht. From here you’ll take a boat to Naples, where you’ll get your flight home.
