It’s fair to say that Venice, with its winding waterways and stunning architecture, ranks among the most recognisable cities in Europe, and a trip to the floating city is a highlight of any Italian holiday. This journey begins in Venice before taking in a lesser-known gem of the Veneto region, the hilltop town of Asolo, which artists and writers from across the globe have called their home. You’ll end your adventure in Verona, a city as stunning as you’d expect from the setting of no fewer than three of Shakespeare’s plays.
Perfect forExperiencing the rich history and culture of the Veneto region.

Itinerary details

3 nightsVENICE

Your tour of the Veneto region begins – where else? – in Venice, a watery wonderland of canals, bridges and islands comprising one of Italy’s most iconic cities. Your home for three nights is Ca Maria Adele, a sophisticated and luxurious hotel housed in a 16th century palazzo. An off-the-beaten-track tour is a great way to get to know Venice as it has existed largely unchanged for centuries: a local guide will take you on a gondola tour through some of the less touristy minor canals, passing mask workshops and gondola factories on your way. A private motorboat tour of the Venetian Lagoon, stopping at the islands of Morano, Burano and Torcello, is an unforgettable experience. At Murano you can see artisans at work in a glassmaking workshop, while Burano is famous for its fishermen and lacemakers.

2 nightsASOLO

The next stop on your holiday is Asolo, a short drive inland from Venice. Known as ‘the town of a hundred horizons’ owing to its panoramic views, this medieval hillside town has long attracted writers and artists. Your hotel is the Albergo al Sole, a simple but luxurious boutique hotel in the heart of Asolo. Guided tours are available of the nearby Villa Barbaro, a masterpiece of Andrea Palladio, arguably the greatest architect of all time. A local guide can also take you through Asolo itself, who’ll show you how the various celebrities who’ve lived here have influenced life in the town, such as the poet Robert Browning and the writer and traveller Freya Stark. The panoramic views to be had from Asolo’s castle are a great way to finish a day spent walking round the town.

2 nightsVERONA

After two nights in Asolo you’ll drive to Verona for the final stop on your journey: Verona. As the home of Romeo and Juliet, it’s come as no surprise to find that drama, history and romance are high on the agenda in this ancient city, which has stood for thousands of years. Your home for two nights is Due Torri, a traditional luxury hotel five minutes’ walk from Verona Cathedral. A guided walking tour of Verona is a great way to get to know the city, embarking from Juliet’s courtyard and taking in the Arena di Verona and the Teatro Romano. A trip to the nearby town of Sirmione, on the shores of Lake Garda, is also highly recommended, where you can sample Lugana DOC – one of the most famous white wines in the world – and take a boat trip around the peninsula. After two nights in Verona your journey through Venice and Veneto comes to an end, and you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
