Hotel Vik I Myrdal sits on Iceland's mid-southern coast, amidst dramatic volcanic landscapes and rugged cliffs and mountains overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The design of the hotel is geared towards light, space and making the most of the natural beauty of its surroundings. Large windows let in a lot of natural light, and offer stunning panoramic views of the outdoors.

The sleek and comfortable rooms have an attractive modern style and neutral, organic colour schemes to complement the landscapes outside – enjoy the views over the mountains and the ocean through huge, floor-to-ceiling windows. The rooms in the hotel’s main building were designed by the Icelandic architect Gudbjorg Magnusdottir, and were inspired by the nearby beach and ocean.

At the Berg Restaurant, the top-class gourmet cuisine showcases fresh regional produce in creative takes on classic Icelandic dishes, such as marinated herring fillet, Arctic char and Icelandic rack of lamb. Breakfast takes the form of an extensive buffet of fresh and cooked options, while the lobby bar is just the place to relax by the fireplace with a hard-earned drink after an exhilarating day of exploring.

Natural beauty surrounds the hotel, beginning right on your doorstep with Vik’s famous black sand beach, which makes for an eerily atmospheric walk. Also nearby are the Reynisdrangar Pillars, columns of volcanic basalt which shoot up from the ground on the edge of the beach, and Dyrholaey, home to a famous sea arch.

Other iconic natural wonders within easy reach include the Solheimajokull Glacier, the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and the Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Many of these can be visited on foot, or enjoy an expert guided tour, while also on offer are special excursions into the tundra to view the surreal Northern Lights.
