Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The origins of Sand Hotel in Reykjavik began at the Sandholt bakery, located next door and rumoured to produce Reykjavik's tastiest cinnamon buns. You’ll feel right at home here, with wholesome pastries and baked goods right on the doorstep, only a stone’s throw away from the capital’s main attractions like the famous Hallgrimskirkja church, the concert hall and the harbour.

Rooms at Sand Hotel

The snug and stylish rooms feature wooden floors and furniture in shades of slate and chocolate, contrasting with crisp white bed linens. Aqua and blue textiles add a nautical pop of colour, while contemporary artwork gives each room unique character. Mod-cons include flat-screen TVs, Marshall Bluetooth speakers and Nespresso machines, and the cool grey granite bathrooms feature a walk-in shower and toiletries created by Soley Organics.

Family rooms feature two queen-size beds, while the junior suites and Sand Suite add living spaces including a comfortable sitting area, a reading chair and a coffee table.

Food & drink

Start the day with some warm cinnamon buns, freshly baked at the hotel’s sister patisserie located next door and delivered to your room. After exploring Reykjavik’s cultural and historic attractions, refuel with hearty soups, rustic breads and harbour-sourced fish at the Lauf restaurant, located on the ground floor, then unwind with a glass of wine and a cheese platter in the adjacent lounge bar.

Facilities

The staff here have really thought of every detail to make your stay smooth and enjoyable. They have even gone the extra mile to provide you with a mobile phone with internet access that is yours to keep for the duration of your stay, to use for GPS navigation around the city, to make sightseeing a breeze, and to make local calls for free.

Activities at Sand Hotel

Culture vultures will love the charming and characteristic capital of Reykjavik, with its unique museums, quaint harbour, nature-inspired architecture, concert hall and trendy shops for updating your winter wardrobe with sumptuous fur staples.

Learn about Icelandic history and culture at the Whales of Iceland Museum and the Reykjavik City Museum which showcases artefacts that tell the story of the capital, and explore amazing buildings like the Hallgrímskirkja church - its distinctive design is inspired by basalt columns that form when thick lava flow cools.
