Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Tanja Lagoon is situated in a stretch of beautiful natural scenery officially identified as ‘Australia’s Coastal Wilderness’, which stretches from the far South Coast of New South Wales to East Gippsland in Victoria. The region is characterised by thick forests, lakes, beaches and national parks, and a rich and varied ecosystem.

Rooms at Tanja Lagoon Camp

You’ll stay in luxurious safari tents overlooking the lagoon, each with its own bathroom and kitchen facilities and sitting on a spacious deck made from local timber. Each tent features a fire pit and camp chairs as well as a barbecue, meaning that you can enjoy dining under the stars. The tents sleep 2 adults each, and extra swags can be provided to accommodate children in the Family Tent.

Food and drink

There is no restaurant on the property, but you probably won’t want to eat anywhere other than your tent anyway – the tents’ kitchens are fully equipped to cook up anything you see fit and enjoy it in the privacy of your tent or out on your deck, taking in the view. Included in the rate is a delicious organic breakfast for two, featuring local produce like organic muesli, Tilba milk, Honorbread sourdough, Wild Rye’s coffee and, depending on availability, home grown eggs. A variety of nearby markets are well-stocked with more local produce from the Bega Valley, and there are a range of quality restaurants nearby if you fancy eating out. These include Fat Tony’s in Tathra and Il Pessagio in Bermagui – hotel staff will be happy to advise you.

Facilities

Friendly hosts Sam and Loz are wilderness experts and will be happy to advise and assist you on how best to enjoy the surrounding area. Guests are welcome to use the resort’s canoes and kayaks. Children can be accommodated in the Family Tent, which is separate from the other tents and where extra swags can be set up.

Activities at Tanja Lagoon Camp

A short walk (or paddle) away from the camp is the beautiful Middle Beach, great for surfing, rock pooling or just a leisurely walk. The lagoon and surrounding area are home to a rich variety of animal life, including coots, spoonbills, and swamp wallabies. The camp’s secluded location makes it ideal for bushwalks, with the Mimosa Rocks National Parks forest nearby and two marked walks between the camp and the beach. Canoeing and kayaking are great ways to explore the lagoon, but be advised that heavy rain can open the lagoon out to the sea, making it tidal and potentially affecting water-based activities. When the sun goes down, the clear night skies around the camp are great for stargazing from your deck.
