Tafika Camp

Location: Luangwa Valley | Zambia

Price guide: $$$$$ More than $500 per person per night

Tafika Camp epitomises the Zambian safari experience. An owner-run lodge, with unfussy rooms and incredible guides. This is one for wilderness lovers, who’d rather hear a fish eagle’s call or a lion’s roar than the hum of air conditioning. It’s no coincidence that many of the guests at Tafika seem like part of the family - often they’ll be on a fourth or fifth (or tenth) visit.
Perfect forSafari purists, teenaged families, and active types who don’t just want to sit in a game-viewing vehicle.
In the knowFor the ultimate undiscovered African secret, fly north to spend a few days at Mwaleshi, Tafika’s sister camp in North Luangwa, one of the least-visited parks in Africa.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Tafika Camp sits on the Luangwa River, in the pristine game-viewing area of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.

Rooms at Tafika Camp

The huts are comfortable with simple decor, thatched roofs and reed walls. Showers at Tafika are open to the skies, and at night, hippos can be heard chomping on the lawn outside.

Food & Drink

Food is good home cooking: unfussy and delicious. Dinner is taken under the stars, breakfast on the riverbank and afternoon tea under a shady tree. Be prepared to down cutlery and race out of camp at any moment if any game wanders nearby!

Activities at Tafika Camp

Where to begin? Dawn and dusk game drives, afternoon mountain biking safaris, visits to the local village... Walking safaris are a speciality of the Luangwa Valley and a two or three-day walking trail to Tafika’s remote bush camps is heartily recommended.
