Hotel Overview

Where

Set in a thick acacia forest on the edge of the Masai Mara in the recently formed Mara Naboisho Conservancy.

Rooms at Encounter Mara

Each of the canvas tents are en suite, spacious, furnished with handmade furniture, boast simple yet elegant décor and have either king-size twin or triple beds. They also have private verandas where you can enjoy the sunshine and soak up the beauty of the surrounding landscape on the day bed.

Food & drink

For much of the year, depending on the weather, the communal meals are served outside: on the lawn for breakfast and under a shady tree for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is typically a selection of fruits, yoghurts, cereals and cooked fare, lunch is a buffet of fresh salads and an assortment of meats (can also be had as a picnic in the bush), and the set menu at dinner is preceded and then followed by drinks around the fire.

Facilities

There are two main tents that form the central hub, one of which is the dining tent and the other serves as a lounge, furnished with comfy chairs and sofas.

Activities at Encounter Mara

For a classic safari, go on the two daily games drives into the Masai Mara to spot prides of lion, fluffy baby cheetah, hundreds of wildebeest, elephants having a dust bath and giraffes shading themselves under a tree. Within the conservancy, you can also explore the area on foot, at night or on horseback – something you cannot do in the Mara reserve itself.

Kenya is not just famous for its wildlife but also for its cultural experiences, so we’d recommend the guided visit to the local Maasai communities, where you'll find the people eager to share their traditions and way of life.
