Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Borana Lodge sits in the Laikipia Plateau in northern Kenya.

Rooms at Borana Lodge

There are eight beautiful stone and thatch cottages with open fireplaces and sweeping views over the valley below. Each cottage is unique in style and character and offers complete privacy.

Food & Drink

Enjoy delicious home-cooked food at a communal table each evening, with private dining available on request. The chefs have a wide range of cuisines, so expect something fantastic and different every day. All of the fresh ingredients are sourced from the nearby Waitabit farm, which is fully organic.

Facilities

Spend your downtime at the infinity pool, with views out over the Borana Conservancy. There is a dam in the valley below where a wide variety of wildlife often come to drink and swim in the heat of the day.

Activities at Borana Lodge

Head out on game drives, by day and by night, as well as walking safaris, and see fantastic wildlife including the Big Five. Our two other favourite things are the horse riding and mountain biking safaris. Mountain biking is the latest way to explore the bush, and is fast enough to provide variety, but is even more thrilling than game drives. The riding at Borana is top-notch and comes highly recommended, and offers a fantastic way to get up close and personal with the wildlife. The lodge has excellent horses that cater to all levels for when you want to venture out onto the plains. Make sure you don't miss out on a visit to Pride Rock for some classic photo opportunities.

Borana Lodge also offers 'behind the scenes of conservation' activities, giving guests the chance to spend time with the conservancy's 115 wildlife rangers, helping with deployments in the evenings and tracking rhinos on foot at first light. A stay here acts as a direct contribution to the sustainable conservation of land, wildlife and building local livelihoods. All retained earnings are invested into a wide variety of conservation efforts, including the training and support of Borana Conservancy’s rangers, a mobile health clinic and a local education support programme, among others.
