Arriving in Nairobi, your private driver will whisk you across town to a light aircraft waiting to fly you up to the raw wilderness of Samburu National Park. Here, you’ll spend three nights in Sasaab, one of Africa’s most stylish safari lodges. Have any niggles from your journey massaged away in the Liz Earle spa, and later sit back with a G&T and watch the sun set over Africa. Spend the following days watching elephants wallowing in the red dust and tracking animals across the plains with the Samburu warriors. If you’re here on a Wednesday or Thursday, immerse yourselves in the colourful chaos of the market and, for the truly brave, travel by camel into the bush to spend a night ‘fly camping’; sleeping out in the heart of Kenya’s wilderness.

From Sasaab, you’ll fly to Loisaba by private plane, where you can be as active or relaxed as you wish. If living life at a leisurely pace is your thing, lie back in the spa and take a gentle game drive amongst endless herds of elephant; if you’re a bit of a thrill-seeker then raft on the river, gallop alongside giraffe and mountain bike through the bush. Whatever you do though, absolutely do not miss out on a night in the star beds, falling asleep in your four-poster under the stars and waking with the rising sun.

Leaving Loisaba behind is sure to be a wrench, but six nights on Kenya’s ludicrously beautiful palm-fringed coastline awaits. You’ll stay at the wonderful Msambweni House, were you can enjoy long, lazy lie-ins, relax on sandy beaches and dine by candlelight under the African sky. Play Hemingway and try your hand at deep-sea fishing or cast yourselves away and float out to a deserted sandbank for lunch.
