Sanctuary Stanley's Camp

Location: Okavango Delta & Moremi | Botswana

Okavango Delta | Botswana

A visit to Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp isn’t really about the camp, though it really is rather nice. Nor is it about the game viewing, or even the watery wonderland of the Okavango. Instead, it’s about the few hours that you’ll spend, taking a stroll through the bush with your three new friends, Jabu, Thembi and Morula. Together you’ll meander through the bush, pausing for snacks, and looking out for Jabu’s trunk on your shoulder. Oh, did we not mention they’re elephants?
Perfect forElephant lovers, Sanctuary Stanley's Camp is for you.
In the knowThe Okavango Delta’s as much about the scenery as the game. To give some sense of the vast wilderness you’re staying in, we’d definitely recommend pre-booking a scenic helicopter flight over the delta.

Hotel Overview

Where

In a private concession on the southern tip of Chief’s Island in the Okavango Delta.

Rooms at Sanctuary Stanley's Camp

Eight tented rooms, raised on wooden decking and looking out over the plains. These are classic luxury tents, with ensuite bathrooms and a colonial feel.

Food and Facilities

As with any safari, the emphasis here is more on heading out to enjoy the spectacular surroundings than spending too much time in camp.  However, there’s a pool for the hot hours between game drives, and a small library. Food is fresh: soups and salads at lunchtime, tea and cakes in the afternoon and a three course meal at night.

Activities at Sanctuary Stanley's Camp

Day and night game drives, and water levels permitting (normally June- September) mokoro trips on the delta. What makes Stanley’s truly special is the optional extra (though if we had anything to do with it, we’d make everyone try it): the elephant experience. Guests have the chance to walk through the bush with three semi-habituated elephant, strolling side by side as the ellies search for food and fallen fruits. This is as close as you’ll come to seeing Africa through the eyes of an elephant and is not to be missed.
