History lovers and grown up back-packers who want to enjoy all the luxury of a stylish, contemporary hotel.
Just outside of central Luang Prabang, in a laid-back and rural residential area, 15 minutes from the airport, and just a short walk from the UNESCO heritage sites.
There are just 23 luxury suites at Hotel de la Paix Luang Prabang, within tranquil frangipani scented gardens. Architecture-wise, original French colonial features meet simple, contemporary design, with high ceilings and lustrous stone floors inside. For even more luxury, the bathroom walls can be opened up entirely for an alfresco bath or rain-shower. You’ll also have a large, private garden, with day-beds for relaxing, whilst the Pool Suites come with an enticing indigo-tiled pool. If you want to make the most of the hotel’s eclectic history, you can stay in one of the corner suites, which incorporate the iconic watch-towers, and have beautiful views of the Luang Prabang landscape.
Authentic flavours of the Luang Prabang region can be savoured at Hotel de la Paix, enhanced by views of the courtyard and their own organic garden. Alternatively, you can take a complimentary shuttle-bus to the nearby 3 Nagas sister hotel, which has a Conde Nast award for its incredible Laotian Cuisine. Inspired by this, you may like to join Hotel de la Paix’s on-site Ka Toke cooking school.
Hotel de la Paix Luang Prabang is just a short walk from the town’s UNESCO heritage centre, or you can take a leisurely cycle on one of the hotel’s complimentary bikes. Sun-rise is the perfect time to begin your cultural experience, heading to the centre and watching the daily procession of 300 - 400 saffron-cloaked monks. You can also visit beautifully ornate temples, and the imposing Royal Palace where the last king was evicted in 1975. For nature lovers, a long-tail boat trip is a must: observing the swirling pool where the Mekong river and Nam Ou join, swimming beneath stunning turquoise waterfalls, and visiting the Pak Ou caves which are filled with Buddha statues.
Near the Kuangsi waterfalls is the wonderful ‘Free the Bears’ sanctuary, home to sun-bears that have been rescued from traders.
