Luxury Holidays in Laos

Prepare to fall in love with Laos: explore the beautiful agricultural basin of the Mekong by boat or on the back of an elephant and follow the river as it winds its way past traditional villages and ancient temples, admire grand Buddhist temples in the capital, Vientiane and Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy freshly caught seafood at an authentic floating market.

Laos is a delightful mix of quaint streets in French-style towns, rivers running through forest-clad mountains and limestone caves, enigmatic history on the Plain of Jars and a colourful, exotic culture that is just waiting to be discovered; after years of isolation, thanks to its natural beauty and friendly charm, Laos is finally emerging as a must-visit gem in the heart of Indochina.

Mekong and the Islands Thumb

Mekong and the Islands

Some of the most agricultural parts of Laos lie in the south. Under the gaze of the surrounding mountains, the Mekong River meanders through traditional villages and past Buddhist and Pre-Angkorian temples, the most stunning of which is Wat Phu. The Bolaven Plateau is home to spectacular waterfalls, sand bank beaches, coffee plantations and a diversity of local cultures, and is best explored by elephant. As the river enters the region of Si Phan Don, thousands of small limestone islands immerge, which offer a glimpse into traditional Laotian life. Irrawaddy dolphins can be spotted in the river, so keep an eye out!

Vientiane Thumb

Vientiane

While in Vientiane, be sure to see the beautiful gold-covered stupas of the Pha That Luang temple, fill up on delicious Laotian food at the steaming noodle stalls and watch the sun set over the Mekong. The capital is full of curiosities, from Patuxai - an elaborate local rendition of the Arc de Triomphe that’s been given an Asian twist -to Buddha Park, a bizarre outdoor collection of huge sculptures, including Buddhist and Hindu deities and mythical beasts. Enjoy a Laotian massage, take part in traditional Buddhist meditation or enjoy freshly caught fish in one of the floating restaurants on Nam Ngum Lake, not far from Vientiane.

Luang Prabang Thumb

Luang Prabang

The beautiful ancient city of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World heritage site, is the former royal capital of Laos. A serene city, perched on the banks of the Mekong River, it is a fascinating fusion of French and Asian influences, where Buddhist temples stand side by side with grandiose French-colonial architecture. The city is the spiritual capital of Laos, where orange-robed monks make their early morning alms rounds through the peaceful streets. The 200 year old Wat Siphoutthabat sits at the base of the nearby Mount Phousii, and charming traditional villages are scattered among the surrounding jungle-clad hillsides.
