A relaxing few days in stunning surroundings: the perfect antidote to arduous itineraries.
The Suasi Island lodge is on a private island 2 ½ hours by boat from Puno (4 ½ hours with stops at the Uros and Taquile), at the north-eastern edge of Lake Titicaca. Suasi Island can also be reached by road to Cambria, followed by a 1 km boat trip.
You’ll feel like you could step right out onto the tranquil lake, thanks to the perfect views from your room. There are 24 magically rustic rooms, with sloped ceilings, wooden beams and skylights. For even more seclusion, there’s the Andean Cottage perched right on the edge of the lake, with its own private beach and dock. You haven’t experienced true serenity until you’ve stayed in this enchanting place.
The restaurant serves surprisingly elegant and sophisticated cuisine, using native grains such as quinoa, and indigenous meats like alpaca. A superb selection of Peruvian and imported wines and spirits can be enjoyed in the fire-warmed bar, where most guests end their night with a nightcap and some billiards or board games.
Suasi Island is a magical, and for many, mystical place to disconnect from the world. Spot rare vicuñas, hike to Itapilluni Hill to contemplate colourful high-altitude sunsets, paddle a canoe around the island, go on a quiet nature walk, or visit the massage room and eucalyptus sauna.
Don’t underestimate the effects of altitude; you won’t feel like being too active. Families should consider taking the 2 bedroom Andean Cottage right on the shore of Lake Titicaca which comes with butler service so you don’t have to be walking up and down the steps to the main hotel!
