El Convento is located opposite the famous Capuchinas Convent in Antigua, a 1.5 hour drive from Guatemala City or 2.5 hours from Lake Atitlan.
There are 20 sumptuous suites at El Convento which flow from a central courtyard graced by a hundred-year-old Tempixque tree. The suites contain cedar-beamed ceilings, a cosy fireplace and some feature outdoor Jacuzzis and a pillow menu.
The restaurant “Siitz'”, meaning delight in Mayan, is overseen by the talented local chef Arlene Meneses who gives international dishes a twist by using wonderfully exotic-sounding local ingredients. El Convento features one of the few heated outdoor pools in the area and the Piedras Negras Spa offers conventional therapies and Mayan rituals.
