People who want to combine beach rainforest and cultural experiences in one place.
Located just a few kilometers north of the Panama border in Talamanca County, on the Caribbean coast of Limon province, Costa Rica.
The 24 ‘pavilions’ at Almendros y Corales are luxury safari-style tent with palm roofs, raised off the ground and connected by wooden walkways, illuminated by soft lantern light at night. All the rooms have private balconies with hammocks, and the master suite has a Jacuzzi. Polished wooden floors, internal bathrooms and four poster beds all combine to make sure that even though you’re sleeping in a tent, no thought of roughing it crosses your mind.
Almendros y Corales has a beach directly in front of it, with hammocks and a beach hut. There’s a funky Caribbean bar and a restaurant, surrounded by vegetation, which serves a blend of international and Costarican dishes. There’s also a Jungle Spa that offers a range of aromatherapy massage treatments.
The Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge area envelops the resort, providing a network of trails along which guests can roam in search of birds, frogs, monkeys and butterflies. The hotel can also arrange trips further afield to hike and swim in waterfalls in Puerto Vargas National Park. Offshore, you can take a dolphin-watching boat trip, snorkel or kayak amongst coral reefs. Climb high into the rainforest on a canopy tour or visit the local indigenous people at Cachabri village.
If you’re an iguana fan, ask the hotel to put you in touch with a local lady, Juanita, and her family, who are raising these beautiful green lizards and then releasing them into the wild.
