Chan Chich Lodge is located on Gallon Jug Estate in north-western Belize, an area that lies within the largest contiguous forest north of the Amazon basin, and is approximately 2km east of Guatemala on the headwaters of Chan Chich Creek. The Lodge is built within the confines of the Main Plaza of an ancient Mayan site, Kaxil Uinic.
There are 12 stand-alone thatched-roof Cabanas and a two bedroom luxury Villa at Chan Chich Lodge, all of which sit amidst the dense, mature jungle forest covering an impressive Maya ceremonial site. Each cabana, beautifully finished with local exotic hardwoods, is decked out with ceiling fans, private bath, hot & cold water, 24 hour electricity and a wrap-around veranda with hammocks. The Villa, situated at the south-east corner of the plaza bordering the jungle, comprises two bedrooms, both with king beds and two outdoor living areas, one with a private Jacuzzi and outdoor shower; there’s also a large living room complete with bar.
Chan Chich Lodge has a charming restaurant with screened windows and local mahogany and cedar hardwood beams forming a vaulted ceiling under exposed thatch. The restaurant also has an outside decking area, offering tables for ‘al fresco’ dining and offers great local Belizean food and international dishes served by extremely welcoming staff. In addition there’s a screened swimming pool, jungle Spa, library and reading room and a relaxing bar and lounge area.
Chan Chich has an extensive trail system of over nine miles of well-marked trails for hiking and exploring. Guided day and night walking excursions include specialised trips to learn more about the local wildlife, plant life, birdlife, medicine and archaeology. Horseback riding, (Chan Chich Lodge has its own stables), day and night drives, canoeing and mountain biking are also on offer here.
