An authentic, informal stay at the falls.
Away from the hustle and bustle of Livingstone, around 40 minutes from Victoria Falls.
Guests stay in simple, pretty, thatched cottages scattered amongst the gardens. These have thick whitewashed walls to keep out the hot African sun, ensuite bathrooms and dark wooden furniture. Amongst the seven rooms are several that have extra beds, and two family units, so this can work very well for those with younger children.
Food at Waterberry is consistently highly praised, and the deceptively laid-back service is excellent, ensuring that plates (and stomachs) remain full. Sunset drinks are served by the pool, picnics on islets in the river, and moutwatering barbeques under the stars. Aside from the pool (which has a shallow end for kids), the lodge has boats for guests to use, and honeymooners will love sundowners on pontoon floating on the river.
A visit to Victoria Falls is a given, but the great joy of Waterberry is the number of activities that guests can do from the lodge. Taking a boat out on the river is a glorious way watch the sun set, and fishermen will enjoy the challenge of throwing a line into the Zambezi. Twitchers will be delighted by the array of birdlife, from tiny malachite kingfishers to the vast African fish eagle. If you want to stretch your legs, riders can hire horses from the nearby stables and head out for a canter.
For a genuine introduction to rural African life, ask one of the staff to accompany you on a visit to the nearby villages.
