For any mum and dad wanting a gentle, fun, easy and safe safari holiday to enjoy with the children, this is it! Here we give you an action-packed break at the fantastic friendly Impala Camp in the Selous, where elephants regularly stroll through camp, before whisking you to the stunning white sands and palm-fringed beaches of northern Tanzania. When to go...
This Family Safari and Beach holiday is particularly good for February and October half terms and Summer and Christmas holidays.  Other than that any time of year is pretty good, but we'd tend to avoid March, April and May which can be wetter.

Consider...
Hopping over to Zanzibar after your week on the beach and exploring the local markets and alleyways of traditional Stone Town - a great addition for teenagers.

Itinerary Details

  1. DAR ES SALAAM - overnight flight
    To kick off your family holiday, we fly you direct on an overnight flight to Dar es Salaam.

  2. SELOUS GAME RESERVE - 3 nights
    On arrival in Dar es Salaam, we switch you to a light aircraft flight down to the bush - the flight leaves from the same airport that you arrive into so couldn't be easier. Landing in the Selous, be sure to look out for wildlife; it's not unusual to chase giraffe off the airstrip!

    On arrival, you'll be given a warm welcome by fantastic staff and taken to your stilted family tent at Impala Camp, one of our favourite camps for families, with a great location overlooking the river. For the next three days you'll have great fun spotting animals from lions to elephants, giraffe to hippos on escorted game drives, with welcome dips in the lovely pool in between. Elephants often stroll through camp at Impala and if you listen carefully, you can hear hippos snorting at night!

  3. THE COAST - 7 nights
    Next, you'll take a light aircraft from the Selous up to Tanga, a sleepy town on Tanzania's north coast. From here, it's a lovely drive to pretty Pangani where you'll find your home for the next seven nights, the wonderful Tides Lodge. 

    The Tides is all about laid back, 'shabby chic' charm - a perfect family escape with no airs and graces. The beach is a long stretch of unspoiled paradise: white sand, palms swaying in the breeze, clear water and superb snorkelling - there are plenty of colourful fish to see in the nearby marine park. There are also kayaks, a pretty pool - and the food is excellent too, while family cottages are right on the beach with great views out to the ocean.

  4. DAR ES SALAAM - return flight
    Finally, we fly you back on a light aircraft to Dar es Salaam before you take your international flight back to London, arriving in the late afternoon.
