Africa first timers. The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is top of the hit list and this lodge is the ultimate in deluxe.
Perched on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site. The long extinct volcanic crater shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth where Maasai herders live in harmony with wild animals.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is made up of three intimate safari camps with 30 suites in total. Each sumptuous thatched suite is built on stilts with elegant antiques, graceful chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows and private viewing decks overlooking the crater below. A personal butler will tend to your every need, bringing tea in bed, lighting a fire or running the bath.
Each of the three camps operates independently with a grand central living area, swimming pool and viewing deck overlooking the crater. Every meal is a special occasion in the domed dining room, with its fireplace, crystal, silver and massive wooden platters. The delicious pan-African cuisine can also be enjoyed on the outdoor dining deck.
As well as two daily game-drives in the magnificent Crater, guests can also enjoy bush walks, crater picnics, Maasai cultural visits and trips to Olduvai Gorge and the Shifting Sands.
"Ngorongoro" is a Maasai word, coming from the sound of ringing cow bells. Listen out for them as the herds are brought to drink from the crater lakes in the early mornings.
