Perfect for

Family beach holidays with an African twist.

Where

On Bazaruto Island off the coast of Mozambique, only 40 minutes by boat from Vilanculos, or 15 minutes flight away, with breathtaking views of the archipelago.

Rooms at Indigo Bay

There are 29 beach chalets with indoor and outdoor showers (always a favourite of ours) open-plan living areas and large verandahs. For honeymooners, there’s a dedicated honeymoon chalet just 20m from the beach, and for families, there are 13 two-bedroomed villas with private plunge pools. Their elegant yet natural design makes the most of the superb location on the shores of the unspoilt island.

Food and facilities

The food is a mouth-watering combination of seafood and continental dishes with a Portuguese twist, reflecting Mozambique’s colonial heritage. Indigo Bay has one of the best spas in Mozambique with five treatment rooms, an ice pool, wet room, hydrotherapy pool and an extensive range of indulgent treatments. For gym bunnies there is a small fitness centre.

Activities at Indigo Bay

The huge range of activities is really where Indigo Bay comes into its own. While many guests will be content with just relaxing on the beach and enjoying the spa, there’s excellent deep sea fishing, diving, horse-riding on the beach, water-skiing, kayaking, sailing, tennis – the list goes on....

In the know

Divers should look out for whale sharks between April and July, and Humpbacked whales from August to October.
