Sandy toes and stargazing.
On a private island in the beautiful Quirimbas Archipelago.
Nine villas, making a total of just eighteen guests on the entire island. The feel of the lodge is castaway-chic with airy, open-plan rooms, decorated in natural woods, cotton and stone. There are Sunrise and Sunset villas with indoor and outdoor showers, and Villa Quilalea, with a private plunge pool, vast four-poster bed, and its own ladder down into the ocean.
Your private butler makes dinner a surprise, laying the table each day in a different location. With miles of ocean all around, there’s an emphasis on fresh fish and seafood. Part of the renovation of the island was the addition of a wine cellar (stocked with wine from Azura’s own vineyards) as well as a spa perched on the edge of the cliff, and a new water-sports centre.
The diving and snorkelling at Quilalea has always been excellent, and it’s one of the few places in this area with great snorkelling right from the beach. There are kayaks and dhows to potter about on the water with, deep sea fishing and trips to explore the island and the village.
We won’t lie to you- the great delight in the new Azura is it’s remoteness, but this does make it a bit of a pain to get to- don’t consider it for anything less than a four or five night stay.
