The irresistible, undeniable lure to Rwanda is tracking the Mountain Gorillas. The misty mountains of Volcanoes National Park are home to these remarkable creatures and - without question - watching the gorillas playing and feeding in their natural habitat from just a few meters away, is a wildlife experience like no other on earth.
Beautiful Nyungwe Forest is a paradise for walkers and birders. Waterfalls tumble amongst the trees, and jewel-coloured birds flit from branch to branch. The thrilling sounds of chimpanzee hoots echo through the forest, and the chimps themselves can be seen racing amongst the twisted vines.
If you’re staying in Rwanda longer than just for a trip to see the gorillas, putting your feet up on the shores of Lake Kivu is sure to make up part of your trip. There are sleepy tropical towns, terraced hillsides tumbling down to the lake’s sandy beaches and traditional fishing canoes floating back and forth on the deep blue water.
No visit to Rwanda is complete without at least a part of day spent in Kigali. Passing through a busy capital city is essential for every visitor to Africa, to see what lies beyond the remote villages and wild game reserves. Particularly worth visiting (in fact, we recommend that no-one left Rwanda without seeing it) is the genocide museum, an incredibly thoughtful moving insight into Rwanda’s past.
