Birders, wildlife lovers who don’t need to check off the big five, and those who just want a taster of safari.
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge sits in Liwonde National Park. Not an East or Southern African style big game destination, but nevertheless home to some of the best wildlife viewing in Malawi. Ellies, crocs, and hippo abound, and twitchers will be glued to their binoculars.
This is a classic African tented camp. Think natural materials (wood, thatch, and reeds), sweeping gauze mosquito nets, and decks looking out over the water.
Meals at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge are taken on the deck overlooking the lagoon. Food is good, hearty safari grub, and dinners are eaten communally, with plenty of opportunity to compare the day’s adventures.
Morning and evening game drives, walking and boating safaris. A visit to one of the nearby villages is also a must-do.
Don’t walk around camp unaccompanied after dark. Mvuu means hippo in the local language, and you’re sure to see plenty!
