On the North Western tip of Manda Island, Lamu Archipelago, Kenya.
16 spacious and comfortable cottages furnished wholly with furniture and craftworks from Lamu. Cottages at Manda Bay are constructed from local materials, with palm thatch roofs and woven matting covering the floors, in keeping with the traditional coastal style. All cottages have ceiling fans and private verandas, with some boasting spectacular views overlooking the glistening ocean waters.
The local marine flavours are effortlessly partnered with Swahili and European tastes in the Manda Bay cuisine. Freshly-caught tuna, mangrove crab and prawns are particular delicacies. Dine by calm candlelit in the beautiful dining room or if you’ve been fishing, enjoy your very own catch of the day under the stars.
Relaxation is top priority here. However, for those seeking exertion there is a choice of water sport activities ranging from deep-sea fishing to scuba diving. With regular sightings of dolphins, turtles and the occasional humpback whale, the marine life most certainly won’t disappoint. Immerse yourself in the local culture with a visit to the oldest and best preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa – UNESCO World Heritage site, Lamu old town. Track the gorgeous dik diks (graceful dwarf antelopes) and porcupines on a game drive or hop on board one of the resort’s 60ft dhows and cruise to one of the many fascinating islands situated nearby.
Manda Bay has its own plane and airstrip, and a short scenic flight over the island is not to be forgotten.
