A barefoot family beach holiday.
In the sacred forest of Galu Beach just a ten minute drive from Diani, Kenya.
At Kinondo Kwetu there are two large villas housing nine or so rooms, a large private beach house, and four individual cottages in the grounds. The style is Indian Ocean chic with cool stone floors, whitewashed walls and traditionally carved wooden beds and furniture.
Hosts Ida and Fillip are raising their own young family here, so there’s plenty on offer for everyone. A stable of horses and a paddock, a tennis court, two swimming pools, and with a nod to their Swedish roots, a sauna. Meals are eaten all over the lodge, from family tables in the main house to romantic dinners for two amongst the gardens.
One of the great joys of Kinondo Kwetu is the huge range of activities that this relatively small hotel has on offer. There’s sailing and snorkelling, kite-surfing and canoeing, wind-surfing and waterskiing. Nearby there’s one of Kenya’s better golf courses, and diving and snorkelling are a mere 5-minute boat ride off shore.
October and February half terms coincide with whale-shark season, so be sure to head out for some snorkelling with these gentle giants.
