Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Rajakkad sits 1,000 metres above sea level in the Palani Hills, at the foothills of the Western Ghats mountains in southern India.

Rooms at Rajakkad

The interiors of Rajakkad reflect traditional Kerala style, with antique furnishings and carved wooden features created with wood from the forests of the Western Ghats, including interlocking beams, panels and screens, which contrast with the white walls and dark floors.

The characterful rooms are set around a shaded courtyard, and each one has its own entrance to the rose-filled gardens. The comfortable beds come with plush linens and plump pillows, and the bathrooms have soft Indian cotton towels.

Food and drink

The cuisine is a mouth-watering fusion of Indian and Mediterranean flavours, and makes the most of ingredients from the farm on the estate, with daily-changing menus. Enjoy a refreshing cup of fresh coffee on the terrace at breakfast time (and any time of day), as you listen to birdsong, and take a delicious picnic lunch out with you on a day’s trekking.

Activities at Rajakkad

Enjoy a complimentary yoga session in the morning, overlooking the mountains (yoga and meditation sessions can also be personalised to suit you), before taking a picnic lunch out with you for the day as you trek along the pretty nature trails around the estate, up the river and around rocky gorges, waterfalls and tranquil pools where you can enjoy a swim.

Visit the farm and the fragrant coffee plantations, and the hill stations and lively villages beyond, as well as the temple towns of Madurai and Palani. This is also a fantastic spot for birdwatching – over 200 species of birds can be spotted here. This area has a mild and pleasant climate, and thanks to its elevation, the air is refreshingly cool, making it perfect for exploring. On your return, relax in a hammock with a good book.
