Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Abode is in Colaba, the historic centre of Mumbai, about 5km from the beach.

Rooms at Abode

The 20 elegant and spacious rooms reflect Abode’s ethos in sourcing local products and the craftsmanship of local artisans, and features include vintage furnishings, original artworks, handmade Art Deco tile flooring, hand-thrown ceramic lampshades, and fabrics sourced from vintage saris and handwoven by local charitable organisations, as well as plush beds and state-of-the-art entertainment technology, including flatscreen TVs and iPod docks. The bathrooms have beautiful free-standing bathtubs and rainshowers.

Food and drink

The café serves up delicious dishes made with local, seasonal ingredients. Wake up to a breakfast of fresh breads, homemade yoghurt, eggs and seasonal fruit, washed down with Indian coffee and the hotel’s own masala chai tea. On your return from a day in Mumbai, enjoy street snacks such as chilli cheese toast and masala grilled sandwiches.

Activities at Abode

There is a gym nearby that guests can use, and if you fancy a run (and seeing some of Mumbai at the same time), pick up a map of the best running routes in the city, from 2 to 20km. Many of Mumbai’s sights are just a short walk away, including the Gateway of India and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel, as well as museums, galleries and performing arts centres. There are also cafes, restaurants and bazaars nearby, while the hotel has a carefully curated shop with beautiful handpicked arts and crafts that also support local organisations.

Abode supports the local community through several initiatives. The car service is run by local women, many of whom are single mothers, and expert massages are given by blind people who, like many disabled people, are often marginalised in the workplace.
