Rooms at Hotel Raya

Cascading down the hillside, amongst olive groves, lemon trees, and white-washed steps, Hotel Raya is divided into three segments that offer different types of accommodation (all of which are effortlessly chic and brimming with character). The 30 rooms of Rayo Alto sit at the top of the hill with large terraces, and stunning views of Vulcano, and the tiny surrounding islets. Then you’ve got six rooms in Il Raya Basso – just 100 metres from the sea – some facing the shimmering waters, and others overlooking the rugged hillside. Perhaps the most unique of the buildings is Raya Peppa Maria, a former chapel which is now the greeting area of the hotel.

Food and facilities

Hotel Raya’s terrace restaurant has one of the most spectacular views on the island, looking out towards simmering Stromboli, and on the clearest of days, the silhouette of Mount Etna. Cuisine is organic and biodynamic with the freshest of fish and meat grilled to perfection, and accompanied by the best Sicilian vintages. Following the most exquisite of sunsets, the terrace becomes one of the island’s coolest hang-outs: starting off lantern-lit and mellow, and then (from late July onwards) morphing into an A-list night club.

Activities at Hotel Raya

Adopt Hotel Raya’s mellow vibe by taking a dip in their gorgeous geo-thermal pool, before heading out to explore this picturesque island. Panarea is made for walking, with winding mule-paths peppered with myrtle bushes, turquoise coves splintered with volcanic rock, and – better still – no cars. You can also hire a speedboat and skim over to the smattering of tiny islets; on Basiluzzo you’ll see the remains of a roman ruin, whilst Lisca Bianca has fumeroles bubbling at the surface of the sea.
