We’re thrilled to introduce the USA as a totally new product for Exsus – and what better way to whet your appetite for this captivating and diverse country than an insider’s guide to some of our favourite foodie haunts?
Whether it’s “cronuts” and Asiadog in New York, the Michelin-starred French Laundry in California’s Napa Valley wine region, or an aerial dining experience above the Las Vegas strip: the USA is a culinary colossus that holds infinite possibilities for a luxury holiday, honeymoon, or self-drive.
Jenna from our New York office has just got back from the US and has had us salivating with her endorsement of “cronuts” (the half-dohnut-half-croissant hybrids that have taken the city by storm), along with Asiadog hot dogs, Shake Shack, which does THE best freshly ground burgers and frozen custards (get a taste for New York at their Covent Garden branch, which opens on the 5th of July) and the Stone Street Tavern near Battery Park where New Yorkers head for the legendary Sunday brunches.
Wash it all down at The Standard High Line’s Boom Boom Room roof-terrace which has amazing views over the Hudson.
Birthplace of New-World wines, and with a wonderfully outdoorsy lifestyle to build up your appetite, California is a must for any foodie adventurer. Experience it on a luxury gourmet self-drive: starting off in San Francisco, where you can chow down on clam chowder, salt and pepper crab, and amazing dim-sum in Chinatown, before heading to the sun-drenched Napa Valley for wine-tastings and dinner at what is arguably the best restaurant in the world, Michelin-starred The French Laundry. Whilst cruising Highway One with the hood down we also love stopping off for breezy brunches and beautiful artisan cheeses from the organic farmers’ markets.
Last but not least, embrace the ‘Rawvolution’ in Los Angeles at one of the delicious Paleo bars; join an urban wine-trail in San Diego, and mingle with the young and the beautiful at Casa del Mar.
Bulging at the seams with Michelin-starred restaurants, belt-busting steaks, and lavish all-you-can-eat buffets, Las Vegas is the ultimate playground for foodies. For the best steaks head to ‘Sinatra’s’ at the The Encore where you can eat yours blue whilst channelling ol’ Blue Eyes; slow the pace down at Neyla with its North African cuisine, hookahs, and belly-dancers – and for the height of decadence, the legendary aerial dining experience ‘Dinner in the Sky’ hits the strip this July.
Miami’s ice-cream coloured Art Deco buildings provide a glamorous backdrop for its amazing seafood and night-life, whilst its Latino influence gives added bite. Soak up the Cuban café-culture in Little Havana, and be sure to sample the Latino specialities including fruity batidos smoothies, pork with crackling, and lip-smacking fried plantain maduros.
For some of the best food in the city, head to award-winning The Setai which does lazy jazz brunches, Asian-inspired tapas, and delectable cocktails for when you’re lounging by the pool.
The Grand Canyon, and Northern National Parks
It’s the breathtaking scenery that makes dining so special around the Grand Canyon and Northern National Parks, and with just about every outdoorsy activity on the menu, gargantuan appetites are guaranteed. For the most spectacular views – and superlative cuisine to boot – it’s got to be Amangiri and Amangani which sit against the totally contrasting landscapes of the Utah desert and Teton mountain range.
If all this has got you dreaming of donning your hiking boots, and chewing on a stick of beef jerky, then wait till you take a hot -air balloon ride over Moab and Arches National Park, followed by the kind of champagne picnic that Yogi Bear would be proud of.
