Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Sala Ayutthaya enjoys an evocative location, across the Chao Phraya River from the ancient capital city of Siam, Ayutthaya. The ruins are visible from the rooms, which offer a counterpoint to their historic surroundings with a fresh, contemporary design aesthetic.

Rooms at Sala Ayutthaya

Sala Ayutthaya’s rooms and suites are impossibly stylish, exhibiting a fashionable contemporary design with exposed red brickwork on the walls, light wood beams and muted colour palettes of white and grey. Many rooms offer beautiful views over Thailand’s major river, the Chao Phraya, and Pool Suites feature their own private plunge pool. The Duplex River Suite is spread over two levels and features beautiful design features such as a carved, dark wood four-poster bed.

Food and drink

Sala Ayutthaya’s eatery and bar is a high-end riverside restaurant which exhibits the same stylish design aesthetic as the rest of the hotel. The food on offer reflects both Thai and Western influences: it’s up to you whether to start the day with a Full English breakfast or with jasmine rice porridge, while other in-house specialities include sour tom yam soups, aromatic curries and wok-fried seafood dishes. Food is accompanied by an extensive range of wines, beers and cocktails from around the world, and is enjoyed in a stylish space overlooking the ruins of Ayutthaya.

Facilities

The hotel features a beautiful step pool in its marble courtyard, and a dining deck overlooking the scenic Chao Praya River. In keeping with the hotel’s high-minded, design-centric atmosphere, there’s an art collection in the lobby.

Activities at Sala Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya was the capital of the kingdom of the same name between the 14th and 18th centuries, and as such is home to a wealth of historical and cultural treasures; the ruins of the old city now comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The choice is yours whether to arrange a customisable guided tour departing from the hotel or explore the area by yourself. Notable sites include Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the grandest of the ancient city’s temples and the former home of the royal family, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram, one of the city’s best-preserved and holiest sites. Another popular activity is a trip to the Chao Phrom floating market, an evocative place to enjoy delicious, traditional street food. Adventure activities on offer in the surrounding area include paintballing, ATV trips and kayaking.
