Masseria Torre Maizza | Puglia | Italy

An exquisite boutique hotel located within acres of olive groves overlooking the azure Mediterranean, Maizza combines rustic Italian style with sophisticated contemporary chic.

Perfect for… Maizza attracts a fashionable crowd, who come predominantly to relax and take advantage of the wonderful climate (blue skies tend to dominate from April to October).

Where… Puglia, near the coast,  55 minutes from Bari airport, Southern Italy.

And the rooms… the decor is contemporary chic with slate floors, wood, chrome, soft creams and whites but the historical character of the building remains. With only 28 rooms divided between the original farmhouse, and newer almost Arabian-style buildings, service is personalised but discreet.

Food & facilities… the food is divine and seventy percent of the food served in the two restaurants is grown in the kitchen gardens and surrounding orchards. Guests can learn to cook at the hotel’s cookery school.

Activities… there is a large swimming pool with oversized sun-loungers (heated from March until the end of October), Aveda Spa, a nine-hole golf course and a private beach club and restaurant 3kms away (accessed either by shuttle on request or the hotel bikes). The hotel’s yacht is moored in the port of monopoli just 20 minutes away, perfect for a day trip along the coast. Guests can go riding along the beach or amongst the olive groves and golfers will love the fact that five 18-hole golf courses await in the surrounding area.

In the know…
during summer months, evening jazz concerts are organised twice weekly, which can be enjoyed from the chilled Moroccan-style roof terrace. The local villages with their traditional Trulli houses are also worth a visit.
