Hop on a plane in London and four hours later you're in another exotic world, a riot of colour and colliding cultures where Arab meets Berber and Africa meets Europe. Morroco's Medinas take you back several hundred years and soon have you haggling over exquisite carpets while sipping mint tea. Then head to the Atlas Mountains for superb trekking in spectacular snowy peaks or try your hand at windsurfing from Essouira's blustery beaches. Meanwhile, Tunisia's vast desert, Mediterrean coastline and Roman ruins are perfect for those who like some culture with their sunshine.
Marrakech
Colourful, chaotic and charasmatic, this city’s markets, ancient buildings and tiny boutique hotels ooze character and charm. Riad el Fenn is a chic, boutique haven within the city walls.
La Palmeraie
Just 15 minutes outside Marrakech, this palm grove suburb is the place to stay when you need a break from the Medina mayhem. Some of our favourite hotels are here. Dar Zemora is simply divine and Jnane Tamsna is a great family option.
Atlas Mountains
Biblical mountain scenery (spot the filmsets) dotted with Berber villages, green valleys and snow-capped peaks, this is fantastic trekking country. Stay at Kasbah Tamadot for the ultimate Atlas experience.
Fes
10,000 labyrinthine alleys make up an impenetrable, medieval Medina in fascinating Fes. Want to see where your handbag came from? A visit to the tanneries is a real experience.
Essouira
A hippy hangout in the 60’s, this lovely fishing port is a real charmer with a laid-back atmosphere, fantastic windsurfing, and, of course, delicious fresh fish. L'heure Bleue is our fave here.
Tunis
19th century French charm meets an 8th century Arab Medina, so you can shops in the souks and then enjoy a café au lait and a croissant.
Carthage
Just outside Tunis, the Roman ruins at Carthage are a must-see for a dose of ancient history.
